LIFE EXTENSION THROUGH DIET

One of the only scientifically proven methods to extend your life is through a tightly controlled diet. This method has shown to extend life to the human equivalent of up to 120 years. It involves insuring all your nutrient needs are met, while at the same time reducing your ,calorie intake to 1000 - 1200 calories per day average. In order to do this it is necessary to eat only foods that have high concentrations of several nutrients, while eliminating those foods that have little essential nutrition in relation to their calorie content.

This process sounds easy, but pretty much requires a computer program to implement it, to avoid spending alot of time calculating quantities of nutrients in a large variety of food. There is such a program available now, that allows one to add to and modify the database.

The studies on diet calorie restriction in relation to life extension have been done by Dr Walford. He has done years of research and lab experiments to check and verify his findings. One reason this diet works is because, when you eat more calories that your body needs it burns the excess calories off in a process called futile cycles. It literally burns the excess up. This excess material that is burned up produces a large amount of "free radicals", which are one of the substances in your body that causes aging, deterioration of bodily functions, and build up of residues in the cells themselves. These extra futile cycles also use up the energy of the cell so that the efficiency of the cell's functions is reduced.

Each cell requires a specific amount of energy supplying/rebuilding nutrients. When this amount is exceeded than the cell has to use additional energy to burn up the excess. This ratio is what is called metabolic efficiency. The more energy the cell uses to burn up excess, the lower the metabolic efficiency. There is a waste of energy, waste of nutrients, and a number of harmful byproducts are produced.

When one determines the exact amount of nutrients needed, which includes all of the required ones, and supplies the body only with that amount, the metabolic efficiency will increase on up to the 50 percent level. You end up with more vitality, physical energy, and robust health. By restricting your diet to only to the amount of fully integrated nutrition your body needs, you produce less substances in your body that cause aging symptoms.

Dr Walford has written a couple of books on his discoveries and how you can implement them. One is "The 120 Diet" by Roy L Walford M.D., and also "Maximum Life span" also by Dr. Walford.
